ABOUT US
The origins of the Georgia Board for Christian Counselors (GBCC) date back to 1992, when a passionate group of Christian counseling leaders set out to secure formal recognition for faith-based counselors in Georgia. Spearheaded by Dr. Olin Mullinex and joined by Dr. Gary Rogers, Pastor Bill Denton, Pastor Larry Palmer, and Dr. Jack Kelly, the group met with Georgia’s Secretary of State at the time, the Honorable Max Cleland. Their goal was to encourage the Georgia Composite Board (GCB) to officially acknowledge the legitimacy of Christian counselors.
Despite their efforts, the GCB declined to grant the same recognition afforded to secular counseling professionals. This lack of support presented a critical challenge to their mission. Instead of allowing the setback to halt their progress, the group sought further direction from Secretary Cleland. He recommended a bold and empowering solution: "Create your own independent Board of Examiners for Christian Counselors and Therapists. Set standards. Ensure accountability—just as the Composite Board does for its practitioners."
Heeding this advice, the group moved forward with determination. On June 3, 1993, they formally established the Georgia Board of Examiners for Christian Counselors and Therapists, which is known today as the Georgia Board for Christian Counselors (GBCC).
In tandem with this milestone, the same founding members launched the Georgia Christian Counselor Association (GCCA). This membership-based organization was designed to provide continuing education and foster meaningful professional connections.
Today, GBCC and GCCA operate hand-in-hand, serving a diverse group of Christian and Pastoral Counselors, Life Coaches, Lay Caregivers, Mental Health Professionals, and students. Together, they create a supportive space for learning, professional growth, and faithful service to the community.
Equipping Christian Counselors with Excellence for Over 30 Years.
Our Mission
Our mission is to see that every Christian Counselor in the state of Georgia is counseling from a biblical perspective. For every Christian Counselor to separate their counseling from secular counseling and to always pray with their clients. Also for every Christian Counselor to be certified and under the covering of Logos Global Network of Christian Ministries for their and the client’s protection. Lastly, that we can bind together and be blessed by our Heavenly Father, as a threefold cord is not easily broken.
Our Vision
Humbly invoking the assistance of Almighty God, we dedicate ourselves for the following purposes: To certify Christian Counselors so that they can have the freedom to offer Christian Counseling to everyone. To know that they are part of an organization which gives them the opportunity to reach a dying world through Christian Counseling. To be able to counsel and charge their clients as their degrees reflect in their own offices.
We also certify Pastoral Counselors so that they can serve within their Church and work with those who have counseling needs.
